What is carbon responsibility?
Carbon responsibility means to hold ourselves accountable for our individual carbon output, or carbon footprint, and to take measures to reduce it.
It means to hold the organizations we are a part of accountable to become carbon neutral, or to have a zero net carbon output.
It means to pressure our elected officials to translate our concerns into concrete climate policy.
Why is carbon responsibility important?
Just five countries are responsible for emitting more than 50% of global greenhouse gas emissions! And yet, those countries have done very little to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, invest in renewable sources of energy, and develop concrete climate policy. It is clear that we cannot depend on governments to do the right thing and preserve our environment for our children and grandchildren. Instead, carbon responsibility has to start with us.
